What is Biotin? Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is also commonly referred to as vitamin B7. Biotin/vitamin H is a necessary vitamin for proper function within the body’s metabolic system. Biotin/vitamin H not only helps in chemical conversion of cells, but it is also helpful in regulating blood sugar and in keeping hair and nails strong and healthy. If biotin/vitamin H is taken in excess, the most common of the biotin side effects will usually include male pattern baldness. How can you overdose on biotin? Since biotin is steadily produced within the stomach, and it can be obtained from many common food sources, it is often not necessary to take additional supplements. Doing this could result in too much biotin in the body. Many countries do not even have an RDA for biotin/vitamin H because of this. However, unless a doctor has prescribed biotin/vitamin H as a way to treat a certain condition, increasing your daily intake through supplements should usually not be done. Otherwise, if a person has the normal amount of biotin in their body, they will already be receiving the benefits biotin has to offer hair and nails.
